About the Role
The Exceptional Children's Teacher is responsible for providing children with a safe and healthy learning environment; advancing their physical and intellectual growth; supporting social and emotional development; providing positive guidance and discipline; establishing positive relationships with families and encouraging their involvement in the education of their children; ensuring a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participants' needs; and maintaining a commitment to professionalism.
It is the responsibility of the EC Teacher to provide training and assistance to the Assistant Teacher (if applicable) in developing group/individual activity plans, classroom management, and procurement of needed teaching materials and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Assume primary responsibility for the planning and implementing of the daily program for children with special needs.
- Work well with children and staff to provide guidance that fosters optimum development.
- Provide leadership in a classroom setting.
- Relate, work, and communicate effectively with children and adults.
- Develop and maintain appropriately written Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for students with special needs and ensure these plans are being implemented.
- Learn and use the Every Child Accountability & Tracking System (ECATS).
Qualifications
- Must hold a North Carolina teaching license.
- Proficient knowledge in the area of child development.
- Experience with children with special needs preferred.
Schedule
10-month term of employment.
