3rd Shift Yarn Braider & Winder Operator (PARFLEX)

Position Summary

Yarn Braider & Winder Operators are responsible for the set-up and operation of all yarn twisters, winders and braiders. This is a 3rd shift position: Sunday-Thursday, 10pm-6am. Approximately 4-8 hours of overtime a week is expected after training is complete. Pay is $19.46/hour with a $2/hour shift premium.

Responsibilities

• Operation and set-up of yarn braiding machines: transferring yarn from shipping spools to bobbins suitable for use in braiding machines; maintain condition of bobbins prior to winding
• Operation and set-up of yarn braiding machines: physical transfer of full bobbins to braider decks, removal of empty bobbins from braider deck, and splicing operation required during transfer
• Monitor bobbin footage, yarn condition and tensions
• Change over of tooling and gears as necessary to ensure proper dimension
• Provide visual attention to payoffs, adhesive application, braid pattern, inking and take-ups while braiding
• Perform all required quality checks and record all pertinent information to ensure quality standards are met
• Package product according to instructions, including making cartons and spools as required
• Accountable for process, evaluation, measurement, documentation, and improvement on a continual basis in order to meet plant business objectives
• Participate in area and process team activities and projects
• Report all irregularities to Shift Supervisor or Leader
• Perform other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor or Leader

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED
• Machine operation experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Mathematical aptitude and proficiency
• Keyboarding skills, with some knowledge of MS Office software
• Ability to operate forklift and manual and electric jack (company will train)
• Measurement skills, including use of precision measuring tools and equipment
• Attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot for process and product improvement
• Effective English verbal communication and listening skills
• Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
• Successful prioritizing and management of work projects

Physical Demands

• Standing: Ability to stand for 8+ hours during a shift
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ability to wear required PPE such as safety shoes, eye protection (glasses/goggles), hearing protection, safety vests, and gloves
• Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hands for tasks such as using safety scissors, bending tubing, taping tube, and connecting hose assemblies
• Sorting: Ability to sort items by size, shape, and color
• Physical Movements: Includes pushing, pulling, kneeling, and squatting as part of daily duties
• Lifting: Ability to lift up to 45 pounds safely
• Sensory Requirements: Must have the ability to perceive color accurately and hear plant paging, alarms, and other important auditory signals

Work Environment

Manufacturing plant: Exposure to moving parts on a line, as well as moving equipment throughout the plant.
