Braider Operator - 3rd Shift

To set up and support the braider operation.

Responsibilities

  • Set up braider as per standard instructions to include bobbin changes, setting proper tensions on braider decks, proper gears, proper air settings, and perform braider preventative maintenance as required.
  • Remove finished product to proper staging area.
  • Assist braider operators as operational needs require.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot minor problems to prevent serious mechanical failures.
  • Operate braiders on a relief basis as needed.
  • Prepare and complete associated paperwork.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Calculate braider gearing.
  • Work overtime as required, including extended shifts and weekends, to meet business needs.
  • Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment.
  • Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities, and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk.
  • Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.
  • Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.
  • Maintain production schedules.
  • Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the shift supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Production work experience preferred but not required.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge and use of hand tools.
  • Sound decision-making skills.
  • Good math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to exercise continuous mental, visual, and audio attention.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
  • Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.
  • Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening.

Organizational Relationships

  • Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader.
  • Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment.

Working Conditions

  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.
  • Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.
  • Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection).
  • Standing is required for extended periods of time.
  • Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work overtime, including short-notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs.
