About the Role

The Slurry Operator is responsible for preparing a batch by gathering and weighing the necessary ingredients and then sending the batch through the blender for the correct time, at the correct temperature. Slurry is a basic mixture of wet and dry ingredients.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Production Supervisor(s) on production order add-ons, product changeovers, and tie-outs.
  • Read blend sheets and follow instructions provided on them.
  • Properly use handheld scanners to scan ingredients to in-process or blend sheets.
  • Record correct batch numbers on blend sheets if ingredients are not scanned.
  • Follow production orders for groups and use handheld scanners to look up the oldest ingredient batches.
  • Use the inventory report (LX02) to look up oldest ingredient batches via handheld scanner.
  • Label any unused ingredients with their description and/or batch number (if needed) and return them to proper storage (cooler or dry ingredient area).
  • Collect samples for Lab/Quality Assurance analysis, including fat samples, blender moisture samples, and any additional samples required by the lab.
  • Maintain a neat work area and dispose of empty powder bags, cardboard, plastic, and other debris.
  • Clean up powder spills near blenders and in the powder room.
  • Verify group sheets for accuracy of materials scanned to ensure an accurate inventory.
  • Ensure all necessary ingredients are ready and on hand for use.
  • Assist with the training of new employees when requested by a supervisor.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and correctly.
  • Adhere to all stated safety policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Safe Quality Food Program policies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate handheld scanners, personal computers, and computer screen control panels.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and management.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer and SAP skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating powder control systems.
  • Ability to operate various Powdered Industrial Trucks.

Working Conditions

  • Constant standing, walking, bending, flexing, and extending the neck.
  • Frequent gripping, reaching, lifting, and pulling with both hands.
  • Frequent handling of materials from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder, and pushing/pulling/carrying.
  • Required use of hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hard hats, and/or safety glasses.
  • Handling product weights up to 100 lbs.
  • Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with temperatures averaging 50-60°F.
  • Use of motor skills to safely operate tow motors or other motorized vehicles in tight quarters.
