3rd Shift Inspector Packer

About the Role

Perform tasks involved in the production, inspection, and packing of Altor Solutions’ products. Report any products that have not met company quality standards to the appropriate individual (Quality, Set-Up Technician, Production Supervisor). Follow Altor Solutions’ standards for Safety, Housekeeping, Quality, and Production in an efficient and safe manner.

Responsibilities

• Remove product from conveyor belt and place into drying racks, boxes, or bags.
• Pack product into drying racks, boxes, or bags.
• Use heavy-duty tape machines to cut tape and wrap product for storage or delivery.
• Lift and remove completed boxes or bags, placing them in designated locations, wagons, or pallets.
• Receive and comply with verbal and written job assignments, including product description and packing instructions on Quality/Production Data sheets.
• Complete “Operator Production/Quality Report,” packing reports, worksheets, and/or “special” customer requirement inspection forms.
• Perform visual inspections and use measuring devices such as scales, steel rules, and calipers to ensure acceptable finished product quality.
• Notify supervisor of discrepancies and record required information on Operator Quality Report.
• Inventory tape, labeling, bags, boxes, or drying racks and notify Material Handler of needed items.
• Observe machine operation to detect defects in finished products and notify Supervisor of any problems.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures; notify Supervisor of any production, quality, or safety issues.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure a neat, organized work area at all times.
• Notify Supervisor of need to be away from the machine during shift.
• Assist with material handling and support less experienced team members.
• Verify quality specifications for product and pack/inspect at a rate of up to 60 parts per minute.
• Ensure product is packaged in accordance with established quality and product standards.
• Familiarize yourself with daily production goals to achieve them for each line assignment.
• Operate production line equipment to inspect, pack, and/or count products automatically or manually.
• Seal and label packages properly, then move completed packages for loading onto a pallet.
• Enter data properly in ERP system.
• Start and stop pressing equipment; know the location of the emergency button and understand the lockout/tagout policy.
• Determine the difference between good prints, print rejects, set-up rejects, and manufacturer rejects.
• Accurately calculate all print and manufacturer rejects to account for all containers assigned to the production order.
• Identify various foam specifications and distinguish their types.
• Understand the differences between box labels (Box/Case labels, Work-In-Process (WIP) labels, reject labels, Partial Carton labels) and where to place them on the box.
• Wear PPE properly in accordance with company standards.
• Maintain a clean workstation and area, free from dirt and debris; clean assigned areas of the building or equipment as instructed.
• Work assigned shifts, including overtime and attend after-hour meetings as needed.
• Communicate with co-workers and leadership about safety, housekeeping, quality, and production issues.
• Follow plant-specified job training guidelines.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 3–6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and understand basic math.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required, including close vision to read production tags, labels, inspect parts, and identify defects.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to reach, stoop, bend, squat, stretch, and twist.
• Routinely required to reach with hands and arms.
• Must be able to work in, with, and near machinery and use hand tools.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, steel/composite toe shoes, and gloves.
• Must work efficiently and repetitively with hands and possess physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform duties.

Work Environment

• Typical manufacturing environment with proximity to other production associates, materials, and machinery.
• Moderate to high noise levels; ear protection required.
• Moderate exposure to heat, cold, and noise; dependent on external weather temperatures.
• Work areas may occasionally have wet or damp conditions.
