About the role

The Hydro Operator at AAK Louisville is responsible for controlling a chemical reaction involving hydrogen gas, a nickel catalyst, and steam-heated oil to achieve a specific melt point. This involves circulating the oil through a press to remove nickel and earth material, and then directing it to a storage tank for evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Safety & Environmental Performance:
  • Identify and address high-risk safety/productivity issues.
  • Support full plant-wide compliance with safety rules.
  • Encourage reporting and correcting near misses.
  • Prevent and report environmental issues.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and other work procedures to ensure product quality and consistency.
  • Prevent injuries by promoting safe work practices.
• Task Execution:
  • Take samples from converters and run tests for melt points or RI.
  • Monitor and adjust stg. tank levels and filtration systems.
  • Add correct amounts of filter medium and take samples to the lab for testing.
  • Communicate with the powerhouse to adjust gas plant make as needed.
  • Check pumps and line settings to ensure proper flow.
  • Manually operate valves and switches to control oil flow.
  • Maintain and replace press screens as necessary.
  • Label samples and record movements in IT systems.
  • Use forklifts to move full hoppers and replace propane tanks.
  • Switch out filters and unclog products as needed.
• Cost Control:
  • Reduce rework by participating in employee involvement and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure work is completed to customer specifications.
  • Contribute to cost control efforts and minimize waste.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED with aptitude in machines and industrial knowledge.
• Ability to frequently climb stairs, bend, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand/walk for long periods.
• Knowledge of basic chemistry and math is beneficial.
