About the role
Primarily responsible for supervising employees and daily operations in a feed mill, including training, scheduling, inventory management, and compliance with company policies, FSMA regulations, and local, state, and federal laws.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and train employees, providing direction, fostering communication, and administering corrective or disciplinary actions.
- Provide and enforce safety training for all staff.
- Schedule feed mill activities, including feed manufacturing and shipments, to meet production requirements.
- Oversee and manage inventories, ensuring proper sequence, clean-out procedures, and product availability.
- Manage daily reporting (tank charts, production records, inventory, batching summaries, etc.).
- Review daily production reports and perform regular housekeeping audits.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, FSMA regulations, and all applicable laws.
- Complete daily feed mill checklists and perform other assigned duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of 8–30 hourly employees.
- Demonstrate leadership competencies: delegation, conflict management, planning, evaluating people, and customer focus.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ progressive feed manufacturing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Poultry, Animal or Feed Science, Biology, or a related field.
- 3+ years’ progressive feed manufacturing experience.
- 1+ year of supervisory experience in a similar environment.
- Experience with automated feed processing and related equipment.
Skills
- Ability to operate loaders, conveyors, tractors, track mobiles, and/or forklifts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate people.
- Strong math skills and practical computer proficiency (MS Office).
- Experience managing purchases and inventory.
- Knowledge of food and feed industry regulatory requirements and maintenance functions.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Sound work ethic, honesty, and moral character.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and equipment malfunctions.
- Conduct root cause analysis for preventative maintenance.
- Critical thinking in both standardized and non-routine situations.
Safety Requirements
- Follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety requirements.
- Read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Comply with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date safety training and certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stoop, kneel, crawl, and bend.
- Frequently climb stairs and ladders (50+ feet).
- Occasionally lift 50–100 lbs.
- Occasionally enter confined spaces.
- Frequently work in dusty, hot, or loud environments requiring ear protection.
- Ability to operate a pallet jack with 2,000+ lbs. of material.
