Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct patient care and supervision to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while supporting clinical staff and treatment plans during weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain patient safety at all times
- Conduct routine safety checks and maintain observation logs
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Support therapeutic programming, group activities, and structured schedules
- Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage crisis situations
- Enforce program rules, boundaries, and behavioral expectations
- Communicate patient concerns, behaviors, and incidents to nursing and clinical staff
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including shift notes and incident reports
- Absorb and move patients within the facility
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- CPI or crisis intervention training preferred
