3D/Sculpture Lab Manager II

About the role

Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Art + Art History 3D/Sculpture area. Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery, and provides support for the use of machinery, tools, and equipment to faculty and students. Serves as the safety officer and liaison with FIU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for the 3D/Sculpture area. Manages the physical facility, including reporting deficiencies to Facilities Work Management and the CARTA Director of Operations. Assists with day-to-day management of additional department spaces without a dedicated lab manager, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day management of the 3D/Sculpture facility, including entries/exits, lighting, equipment safety, and cleanliness.
• Serve as safety officer and liaison with FIU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS); implement health, life, and safety policies in accordance with FIU EHS policies.
• Complete annual EHS Lab Self Audit for 3D/Sculpture studios and assist with audits for other department spaces as needed.
• Develop equipment use procedures, provide safety trainings, and maintain safety training logs.
• Provide technical assistance, conduct equipment demonstrations, and lead in-class trainings for faculty, staff, and students.
• Supervise Student Safety Officers, manage schedules, and maintain a master calendar for shop use.
• Track shop use statistics and reevaluate space and time utilization within the facility.
• Conduct quarterly inventory and maintain stock of required machinery parts and materials; coordinate with department purchaser for orders.
• Create, administer, and manage a tool lockup checkout system.
• Maintain machine shop equipment and tools through preventive maintenance; troubleshoot malfunctions and create a reporting system for issues.
• Perform related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment and tools within woodshop and metal fabrication environments.

Skills

• Ability to work near power tools, compressed gases/liquids, metal/wood working machinery, and welding equipment.
• Must be able to carry/lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

Pay

$36,000 - $37,875
