- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification with required endorsements

- Generic Special Education
- Deaf and Severely Hard of Hearing
- Language and/or Learning Disabilities
- Severely and Profoundly Handicapped
- Elementary - Generic Special Education
- Deaf-Blind
- Mentally Retarded
- Severely Emotionally Disturbed and Autistic
- Emotionally Disturbed
- Deficient Vision
- Physically Handicapped
- Speech and Hearing Therapy
- Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments Supplemental (EC - 12)
- Early Childhood Education for Handicapped Children (Infants - Grade 6 only)
- Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC - 12)
- School Speech-Language Pathologist
- One of the following Generalist/Elementary endorsements:
- Generalist
- Elementary
- Core Subjects (EC - 6)
- English as a Second Language endorsement
