About the Role

Under the direction of the Packing Department Supervisor, assists in overseeing staffing, general operation of packing lines, and ancillary functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Packing Supervisor in overseeing packing lines and ancillary activities.
  • Assists Packing Supervisor in determining proper staffing of machine lines.
  • Assists Supervisor in assigning work schedules to Department employees and makes changes as necessary for proper staffing.
  • Uses personal computer and time and attendance reports to accurately track and code data on employees working in the Department.
  • Makes Supervisor aware of any attendance problems, missing punches, etc.
  • Uses personal computer to complete detailed staffing worksheets based on employees scheduled to work.
  • Relays instructions from Packing Supervisor to other departmental employees.
  • Routinely corresponds with Human Resources Department and other timekeepers within the company.
  • Assists other departments with timekeeping/staffing duties as needed.
  • Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, and project teams as appropriate.
  • Assists departmental employees with all duties and problems as needed.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Helps prepare maintenance work requests, absentee reports, accident reports, etc.
  • Performs routine clerical duties, such as making copies and completing daily reports.
  • Follows safety rules and company policies.
  • Keeps work area clean and tidy.
  • Assists Supervisor with clerical/administrative work, such as typing memos and reports, completing reports, creating and updating spreadsheets, filing, and making copies.
  • Performs duties of Packer/Laborer, Machine Operator on an as-needed basis.
  • Assists Inside Production Supervisor with projects, programs, and other work as needed.
  • May lead departmental safety meetings on occasion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus additional training needed.
  • Competency on personal computer required.
  • Basic math skills needed.
  • Certified Forklift Operator.
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required.
  • Conversational Spanish a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Is not a supervisor but has certain responsibilities in leading others in the department.

Physical Demands

  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual Acuity: Required to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.

Work Environment

  • Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from some job tasks.
  • Exposure to fumes from hot pepper and forklifts.
  • Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise.
  • Some contact with grease.
  • Head cover and beard cover required.
  • Gloves and aprons required.
