Job Summary
Aid journeyman in substation construction tasks including planning, laying out, installing, testing, and repairing electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Use tools like drills, screwdrivers, pipe threaders, and conduit benders for measuring, cutting, and assembling electrical conduits, cable, and duct banks.
- Hand dig ditches and holes, install control and distribution apparatus, and pull wire through conduit.
- Work with high and low voltage systems, test circuits, and install grounding leads.
- Rig and set large high voltage equipment, hang protective grounds, and install wire jumpers.
- Utilize equipment for excavation, ground grid installation, and spread rock.
- Install other related items as per plans and specifications.
- Participate in safety processes, report hazards, and follow lockout/tag out procedures.
- Communicate effectively, listen to co-workers, and actively participate in training and mentoring.
- Assist in planning, installing, and repairing systems according to plans and specifications.
- Examine field conditions, identify problems, and report issues to supervision.
- Operate and maintain construction equipment, ensuring daily inspections are completed.
- Comply with company policies and adhere to safety guidelines.
Management Responsibilities
Preferred qualifications include NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent craft training program. Minimum qualifications require at least 2 years of experience in substations or similar crafts, a working knowledge of substation work, and ability to understand and follow directions.
Physical Demands
Requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, moving in and around confined and cluttered spaces, seeing, hearing, and using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Requires repetitive movement and full range of motion and flexibility. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to a set procedure. Requires repetitive movement. Climbs and maintains balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Works up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Works around hazardous equipment. This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
