3611 Cutting Machine Attendant-night shift

About the Role

We have an opening for a night shift Cutting Machine Attendant in the Main Plant. This role involves operating controls for cutting machinery, conveyors, and pumps to process raw materials into various products.

Responsibilities

• Operates controls for machinery that cleans and cuts raw materials into relish, salad cubes, chips, stuffers, and strips, and pricks whole pickles.
• Operates controls for pumps that transfer raw materials from the wet hopper to the processing line and conveyors that move materials along the line to cutting machinery.
• Operates controls for pumps or conveyors that move processed materials from the line to the tanks.
• Regulates the flow of pickles from the hopper to the cutters to ensure the correct amount of cut product.
• Notes and records information on machinery downtime, number of workers on a processing line, and number of bushels processed.
• Checks product after inspection or cutting, evaluating cut and texture for relish and/or salad cubes, and evaluating whole pickles for ground rot, softness, bloating, and size.
• Evaluates strips and chips for cut, selects samples from various areas to evaluate breakage, and separates defective product, weighing and calculating percentage if defects exist.
• Completes downtime sheet daily.
• Once the machine is operational and problem-free, performs duties of Cutting Inspector for much of the shift.
• Follows safety rules and company policies.
• Inspects and removes foreign objects from raw materials on the processing line conveyor before cutting machinery.
• Uses a pusher to clear clutter if jammed, and remains alert for metal and other trash that may damage the cutter.
• Grades processed pepper and other items as needed.
• Visually inspects incoming products on delivery.
• Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, and project teams as appropriate.
• Receives written or verbal instructions from supervisors and performs other work as directed.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English required for job tasks.
• Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions required for job tasks.

Skills

• Operates cutting machinery for chips, strips, salad cubes, and relish.
• Uses pricking machine, pumps, hoses, conveyors, knife, pusher, scales, thermometer, and calculator.

Physical Demands

• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force.
• Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers.
• Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Visual acuity required for operating machinery and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks.

Work Environment

• Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and frequent wetting of feet from job tasks.
• Exposure to fumes from hot pepper and chlorine.
• Hearing protection required due to machinery noise.
• Head cover and beard cover required.
• Gloves and air mask required at times.
• Some contact with brine, chlorine, and oil.
