About the Role
We have two openings for a night-shift Cutting Inspector/Grader in the Main Plant. This role involves standing beside a moving conveyor belt to visually and manually inspect raw materials, grading out unacceptable product and foreign objects. For Worker’s Compensation accommodations, a stool can be provided for periodic use to help with standing restrictions.
Responsibilities
- Stand beside a moving conveyor belt and rake raw materials by hand to inspect each item.
- Visually and manually inspect raw materials for quality:
- For cut product: grade out chips with holes, brown spots, or poor cuts.
- For salad cubes or relish: grade out soft or bad pickles and trash; for green relish, grade out red pepper.
- For whole pickles and peppers: grade out soft or bad product, trash, and incorrect sizes.
- Remove foreign objects from all products being inspected.
- Follow safety rules and company policies.
- Monitor and adjust controls for machinery that cleans and cuts raw materials into relish, salad cubes, chips, stuffers, and strips, and prick whole pickles (if filling in for the Machine Attendant).
- Use a knife to cut onions (occasional duty).
- Lift and carry up to 20 lbs. pans of pickles and peppers (for WC accommodations, pans do not need to be filled completely).
- Participate in training, employee meetings, committees, and project teams as appropriate.
- Receive written or verbal instructions from packing schedules or supervisors and perform other work as directed.
Requirements
- No special educational requirements.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English is a plus.
- Good eye/hand coordination.
- No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force.
- Fingering: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 5 pounds frequently.
- Visual acuity to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work.
Work Environment
- Works inside, subject to seasonal temperature variations and frequent wetting from job tasks.
- Earplugs required due to irritating machinery noise.
- Contact with brine, chlorine, oil, and capsaicin from hot peppers.
- Head cover, beard cover, gloves, and aprons required; air mask may be used at times.
