320P-01 Developmental Specialist - Part Time

About the role

This hourly position directly supports individuals with developmental and other disabilities through Habilitation Services. The Developmental Specialist implements each person’s Day Habilitation Service Plan, documents progress, and ensures dignity, safety, and community inclusion.

Schedule

• Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
• Weekends and holidays off

Pay

• $19.00 per hour
• Paid training provided by Venture
• $1,000 sign-on bonus for full-time; $500 for part-time

Responsibilities

• Safeguard individuals’ human dignity, rights, and liberties; respect cultural values and goals of individuals, families, staff, and others.
• Provide courteous, empathetic, and positive interactions; work cooperatively with individuals, staff, families, and community members.
• Implement Day Habilitation Service Plan (DHSP) objectives and incorporate therapeutic goals into daily activities.
• Assist individuals to identify, develop, and participate in meaningful activities that increase functional independence.
• Support individuals in making and expressing choices; use total communication systems as appropriate.
• Build on each person’s strengths and interests; identify supports needed to participate in community and in-house activities per their needs and wishes.
• Plan weekly schedules with individuals and implement designated activities following each DHSP’s learning style and implementation strategy.
• Document daily DHSP progress in behaviorally specific terms; report daily activities and unusual incidents to the Manager and encourage individuals to share information with home care providers.
• Submit quarterly progress notes on DHSP objectives to the Case Manager on an established schedule.
• Complete all necessary data sheets for Physical, Occupational, Speech, and Behavioral Therapists; complete incident reports as needed.
• Provide physical assistance as required, including toileting, transfers (e.g., wheelchairs, vehicles, mats), eating support and monitoring, grooming, hygiene, and walking assistance.
• Follow emergency evacuation plans; intervene verbally and physically in behavioral incidents as appropriate.
• Maintain individuals’ health, safety, and general well-being; ensure hygiene at all times and a safe, clean, and stimulating environment.
• Follow diet orders including food consistency; keep the Manager informed of unaddressed needs or potential problems.
• Support individuals as active community members by providing or maintaining community-based habilitation/therapeutic experiences through social, recreational, and volunteer opportunities based on their needs and wishes.
• Adhere to all Venture policies and procedures; attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and development.
• Work as a team member to accomplish common tasks, resolve issues, and plan for change; promote accessibility by identifying and addressing barriers.
• Transport individuals as assigned for community-based activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• 21 years of age or older, valid driver’s license, daily use of a car on site preferred (but not required), and available by telephone for daily contact.
• Maintain First Aid, CPR, AED, and Safety Care certifications.
• Venture Community Services follows all CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19.
