EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT – STUDENT INSTRUCTION

Reports To

Classroom Teacher, Site Administrator, Program Director

Essential Job Functions

• Assists with the preparation of instructional materials.
• Aids students in understanding instructional concepts.
• Aids teachers in implementing lesson plans.
• Corrects student work.
• Keeps records and charts of student progress.
• Supervises students during recess, lunch periods, and before/after school.
• Collects and accounts for monies received.
• Participates in various meetings to share information and improve skills.
• Fulfills other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Primarily indoors in classrooms or other school facilities.
• Periodic outdoor supervision during recess or school events.
• Standing or walking for extended periods.
• Lifting or moving materials as needed.
• Exposure to typical classroom noise levels and a range of student behaviors.
• Follows the assigned school schedule and participates in school activities or meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Teaching methods and procedures.
• Record keeping systems.
• Audio-visual equipment and office machines.
• Students' behavior and methods to assure proper conduct.
• Safety practices.

Education and Experience

• At least two years of related college education, an AA degree, or meet the Highly Qualified requirements by passing the Paraprofessional Assessment Exam with a score of 455 or higher.
• Knowledge of School District practices or policies.

Summary

This position’s pay is annualized to include summer months. It is currently represented by the Oregon School Employees Association, Chapter No. 6.
