About the role
The Nursing Supervisor oversees the care of residents on a designated shift, manages nursing staff, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform admissions, discharges, transfers, and re-admissions to the facility.
- Complete Resident Roster and Resident Status/Condition Report and turn into DON each Tuesday.
- Complete Dietary Recommendation Report and return to DON within one week of receipt.
- Complete Pharmacy report and return to DON within two weeks of receipt.
- Check and report lab values to physicians and file to chart.
- Maintain lab schedule.
- Absorb and direct staff in Infection Control issues and compliance.
- Provide behavior monitoring and intervention with residents.
- Notify DON and/or Administrator of issues requiring their assistance such as accidents, reports of alleged abuse, inadequate staffing, problem with employee's families, etc.
- Demonstrate professionalism and a supervisory role model.
- Ensure resident care is being performed to facility standards such as bathing, grooming, positioning, incontinence care, catheter care, etc.
- Monitor response to call lights.
- Coordinate emergency response to fire, disaster, weather, etc.
- Monitor employees for proper use of body mechanics.
- Complete employee accident reports and follow procedure.
- Monitor med rooms for cleanliness, compliance, and that doors are locked.
- Perform staffing duties as assigned and needed.
- Complete QA monthly assignments.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s QAPI program for the nursing service department.
- Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
- Look for and share with leadership ideas for improvement in the organization.
- Perform specialized clinical services as required such as IV therapy, management of CVL, venipuncture, CPR, etc.
- Complete 24-hour report.
- Give complete shift report to oncoming supervisor.
- Make a complete set of compliance rounds on the halls at least once per shift.
- Observe monthly medication pass on RNs/LPN’s making a random selection.
- Assist LPN staff with emergency and acute resident episodes, as well as staffing supervising needs.
- Act as liaison with resident families and sponsors.
- Monitor for safety issues and accident prevention.
- Monitor employees for proper use of body mechanics.
- Complete employee accident reports and follow procedure.
- Monitor med rooms for cleanliness, compliance, and that doors are locked.
- Perform staffing duties as assigned and needed.
- Complete QA monthly assignments.

Qualifications
- Must possess a current Alabama license as a Registered Nurse and graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
- Two years of professional nursing experience in the long-term care setting is required.
- Must possess and demonstrate leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills.
- Clean and concise communication skills for interaction with all customers.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and general public.
- Proficient in management skills.
- Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care and long-term care.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise personnel.
- Current CPR certification is preferred.
- Computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Data analysis and analytical skills.
- Positive teambuilding approach to problem solving.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Works throughout the facility.
- Works in office area as well as throughout the facility.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility, which include a medical and physical exam.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum of 50 feet.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
