About the Role
The Outbound Material Handler ensures all orders are picked, consolidated, packed, and shipped in a timely and accurate manner to maintain smooth outbound operations. This position involves using internal warehouse systems and various warehouse equipment, including Powered Industrial Trucks.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve items from racking accurately and efficiently using handheld scanning devices and ERP system, completed on foot or using forklift equipment.
- Sort and consolidate picked items using handheld scanning devices, preparing customer orders for shipment processing.
- Pack products accurately and securely using the internal SPS system, focusing on providing an excellent customer experience.
- Operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, scanners, and computers, following all established protocols and promoting safe working standards.
- Meet all expected performance standards regarding efficiency, accuracy, and quality of work.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following all safety guidelines and reporting hazards to leadership.
- Work closely with team members and leadership to meet daily, weekly, and monthly departmental goals.
- Abide by all company and warehouse policies.
- Flex into other positions and departments and undertake additional duties as necessary to support overall operations.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day.
- Requires effective communication using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Requires regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 lbs.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of relevant experience in a distribution environment preferred but not required.
- No degree required; relevant skills, experience, and alignment with core values are prioritized.
Skills
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts and order pickers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs with diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
- Customer service-oriented attitude with a desire to exceed expectations.
Working Environment
The work environment may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, temperature and humidity changes, dust, fumes, and gases. Noise levels are typically quiet to moderate, with average employee traffic in the work area.
