About the Role

The Material Handler II is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site to designated work stations in a safe and efficient manner while minimizing damage to materials. This role involves utilizing data from a computer or printouts to prepare parts for the stations.

Responsibilities

  • Read work orders or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved or opened.
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Load materials into vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated areas or material work zones.
  • Secure lifting attachments to materials and transport loads to destinations or signal crane or hoisting operators to move loads.
  • Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheets.
  • Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or mark information on cases, bales, or other containers.
  • Make simple adjustments or repairs, such as realigning belts or replacing rollers.
  • Operate industrial trucks or electric hoists to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Empty trash and handle the recycle program.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Perform all other assigned duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Three months of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift license.
  • Knowledge of workflow in multiple work zones, including materials, dock, painted parts, fabrication, and line calls.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work with Kanban, Supermarket, or POU systems.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Sense of sound and balance is required.
  • Limb and finger dexterity is required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform twisting, turning, bending, climbing, pushing, and pulling motions.
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and vest.

Work Environment

Working conditions will be inside and outside where temperatures will vary from extreme heat to extreme cold for extended periods of time. This position is regularly exposed to vibration and loud noises.
