About the role
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Machine Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring bookbinding and finishing equipment used in the production of high-quality books and printed materials. This position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
This is a 2nd shift position, working Monday-Friday (some Saturdays) 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. Starting pay is $18-19/hr. based on experience, with growth opportunities available.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor book-binding, cutting, folding, gluing, stitching, and finishing machinery.
- Set up and adjust machines according to production specifications and job requirements.
- Load paper, book blocks, covers, adhesive, and other materials into production equipment.
- Monitor machines throughout production to ensure proper operation and consistent product quality.
- Inspect finished books for proper binding, alignment, trimming, gluing, stitching, and overall appearance.
- Make routine machine adjustments and troubleshoot basic operating issues.
- Perform machine changeovers between different book sizes, formats, and production runs.
- Maintain accurate production counts and report quality or equipment issues to supervisors.
- Keep machines and work areas clean, organized, and free of production debris.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies when operating machinery.
- Work closely with other production team members to meet daily production schedules and quality requirements.
- Perform additional production and material-handling duties as needed.
Requirements
- Previous experience operating manufacturing or production machinery preferred.
- Experience with book binding, printing, packaging, or finishing equipment is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn machine operations and adjustments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and move production materials as required.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to follow safety procedures and production standards.
