2nd Shift Inspector Packer

Full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Production Supervisor in the Molding/Gel/Biofexx department.

About the role

Perform tasks involved in the production, inspection, and packing of Altor Solutions’ products. Report any products that do not meet company quality standards to the appropriate individual (Quality, Set-Up Technician, or Production Supervisor). Follow Altor Solutions’ standards for Safety, Housekeeping, Quality, and Production in an efficient and safe manner.

Responsibilities

• Remove product from conveyor belt and place into drying racks, boxes, or bags.
• Pack product into drying racks, boxes, or bags.
• Use heavy-duty tape machines to cut tape and wrap product for storage or delivery.
• Lift and remove completed boxes or bags, placing them in designated locations, wagons, or pallets.
• Receive and comply with verbal and written job assignments, including product description and packing instructions on Quality/Production Data sheets.
• Complete “Operator Production/Quality Report,” packing reports, worksheets, and/or “special” customer requirement inspection forms.
• Perform visual inspections and use measuring devices such as scales, steel rules, and calipers to ensure acceptable finished product quality.
• Notify supervisor of discrepancies and record required information on Operator Quality Report.
• Inventory tape, labeling, bags, boxes, or drying racks and notify Material Handler of needed items.
• Observe machine operation to detect defects in finished products and notify Supervisor of any problems.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures; immediately notify Supervisor of any production, quality, or safety issues.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure a neat, organized work area at all times.
• Notify Supervisor of need to be away from the machine during shift.
• Assist with material handling and support less experienced team members as needed.
• Verify quality specifications for product and pack/inspect at a rate of up to 60 parts per minute.
• Ensure product is packaged in accordance with established quality and product standards for assigned production line.
• Familiarize yourself with daily production goals to ensure they are achieved for each line assignment.
• Operate production line equipment to inspect, pack, and/or count products automatically or manually in accordance with production standards.
• Seal and label packages properly after packing, then move completed packages for loading onto a pallet.
• Enter data accurately into ERP system.
• Start and stop pressing equipment, know the location of emergency buttons, and understand the lockout/tagout policy.
• Determine the difference between good prints, print rejects, set-up rejects, and manufacturer rejects.
• Accurately calculate all print and manufacturer rejects to account for all containers assigned to the production order.
• Identify various foam specifications and distinguish their types.
• Understand the differences between box labels (Box/Case labels, Work-In-Process (WIP) labels, reject labels, Partial Carton labels) and where to place them on the box.
• Wear PPE properly in accordance with company standards.
• Maintain a clean workstation, free from dirt and debris; may include cleaning assigned areas of the building or equipment as instructed.
• Work assigned shifts, including overtime and attend after-hour meetings as needed.
• Communicate with co-workers and leadership about safety, housekeeping, quality, and production issues.
• Follow plant-specified job training guidelines.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 3–6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and understand basic math.
• Excellent manual dexterity.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and pack/inspect up to 60 parts per minute.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required, including close vision to read production tags, labels, inspect parts, and identify defects.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to reach, stoop, bend, squat, stretch, and twist.
• Frequently stand and walk; routinely reach with hands and arms.
• Work in, with, and near machinery and hand tools.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, steel/composite toe shoes, and gloves.
• Work efficiently and repetitively with hands; require physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform duties.

Work Environment

• Typical manufacturing environment with proximity to other production associates, materials, and machinery.
• Moderate to high noise levels; ear protection required.
• Moderate exposure to heat, cold, and noise, dependent on external weather temperatures.
• Work areas may occasionally have wet or damp conditions.
