About the Role

A successful Crew Leader in the Shipping Department will have a strong communication background and good leadership and team-building skills to help lead team members. Responsibilities include assigning tasks, maintaining quality standards, maintaining productivity goals, and ensuring employees follow safety and operations processes.

Responsibilities

  • Scanning and sorting incoming and outgoing stock
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Pulling, pushing, loading, and relocating plants
  • Working on scaffolding as a regular part of duties
  • Supervising, directing, and assisting crew with production goals
  • Moving inventory by running reports for areas to be moved to and from the warehouse, coordinating inventory transfers with related departments
  • Verifying and maintaining a desired level of quality
  • Coaching and training employees within the department
  • Ensuring employees follow safety requirements and operations processes
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to give constructive feedback to crews
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills including time management
  • Proven basic math skills
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and different job situations on a daily basis
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, and seek solutions to problems
  • Detailed-oriented, accurate, reliable, able to multitask, and be a team player

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting up to 35 pounds repetitively for 8 or more hours/day
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, sit, twist, stand for 8+ hours a day
  • Ability to use fine motor skills, such as pinching, squeezing, pulling
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, wet) and in an environment with dust and allergens
  • Versatility to perform any job within Production, Shipping, or Labor departments
  • Pushing, pulling rolling/shipping carts weighing up to 1000lbs (75lbs force)
  • Climbing a ladder and ability to work at heights above 6ft
  • Ability to obtain certification to drive low-speed vehicles
  • Fluency to read, write, and understand the English language
  • Long-term ability for standing, sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting on a regular basis
  • Ability to operate all machinery necessary within the department and across the facility, including driving a scooter
  • Consistently lifting up to 30 pounds unassisted

Job Setting & Physical Demands

This position is primarily outdoors but may require working between locations and within an indoor office environment for administrative duties, which may include the use of computers and standard office equipment. The role requires working in all outdoor elements, including dust and allergens, and occasional work on scaffolding.
