About the role
We are seeking a 2nd shift Assembly Technician (4-10's) to work out of our Milwaukee Service Center. The Assembly Technician is responsible for working on mechanical or electrical apparatus associated with large generation equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of shop-related tasks across departments with minimal supervision, supporting job completion within required timelines.
- Assist in complex disassembly and assembly operations using precision measuring instruments, hand tools, pneumatic, hydraulic, and power tools.
- Complete assigned tasks accurately by following verbal and written instructions, as well as company processes and procedures.
- Safely operate jib and overhead cranes for lifting and positioning heavy components.
- Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts safely, with lifting capacities up to 10,000 pounds.
- Conduct receiving, in-process, and final inspections of mechanical, electrical, stationary, and rotating generation components.
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency in induction heating, torch heating, soldering, and brazing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- With limited supervision, perform hand forming, shaping, and insulating copper windings in rotating apparatuses.
- With limited supervision, carry out minor insulation layups and electrical testing up to 10,000 VAC and 100,000 VDC.
- With moderate supervision, assist in forming, shaping, and insulating windings in stationary apparatuses.
- Consistently follow and promote company safety policies and procedures, setting a positive example for others.
- Maintain respectful and professional conduct at all times.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of experience, within a service shop atmosphere.
- Mechanical aptitude to demonstrate the ability to perform basic disassembly and assembly.
- Ability to use various hand tools, operate power tools (i.e. drills, grinders) and properly maintain pneumatic tooling.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations (add/subtract/multiply/divide, fractions, convert decimal to fractions and vice versa).
- Ability to read, understand blueprints and work from sketches.
- Ability to use and interpret measuring tools such as scales, tape measures, digital calipers and digital OD micrometers.
- Ability to read, interpret and perform basic assembly work using the metric system without converting to the imperial system.
Physical Requirements
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;

- Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, and risk of shock.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, humid conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
