2nd Engineer

Second Engineer on board Norwegian Cruise Line vessels.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an efficient and alert watch in the engine room during assigned periods at sea and in port, following all provisions.
• Call the Chief Engineer whenever in doubt as specified by instructions and provisions.
• Carry out maintenance to assigned technical systems as designated by the Staff Chief Engineer and/or Chief Engineer.
• Assist in familiarizing lower-ranked engine Officers with the vessel.
• Assist the Staff Chief Engineer in providing information for the Engine Department Monthly Condition Report.
• Be fully familiar with emergency control procedures for controllable-pitch propellers, where fitted.
• Carry out systematic checks of oil-to-sea interfaces.
• Prepare a handover report prior to leaving the vessel.
• Represent the Engine Department on the Shipboard Safety Committee when assigned.
• Follow Chief Engineer’s instructions and procedures for loading or transferring bunkers, MDO, lube oils, or oily sludge.
• Comply with provisions for bunkering tenders.
• Comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding refrigerant gas emissions, bilge water, oily sludge, black water, and gray water operations.
• Ensure the Fuel Switchover process is carried out as outlined.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Second Engineer qualifications and licenses in compliance with all International and National conventions and regulations.
• Second Engineer license endorsed by the Flag State, including all STCW 95 certificates.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience.
• Full knowledge and understanding of the Company Safety Management System (SMS).
• Thorough knowledge of the assigned vessel.
