Entry salary is posted above. Year‑two rate: $23.30 per hour. Year‑three rate: $24.92 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Perform computations for preparation of detailed construction plans for highway projects, ranging from technician‑level to entry‑level professional work.
• Assist design projects, including bridge replacements and resurfacing, using engineering software.
• Prepare reconnaissance and conceptual reports, environmental impact statements, and other project correspondence.
• Utilize computer‑aided design and drafting software, as well as other computer software packages, to create computer‑generated design plans and quantity summaries.
• Delineate right‑of‑way on plans, compute areas, and print microfilm plans and maps for survey research and requests.
• Attend public meetings and prepare handouts, displays, project overviews, maps, and photos for public hearings and presentations.
• Research historical databases and records; locate and reproduce highway plans stored on microfilm or compact disc for designers, the public, contractors, consultants, and utility companies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled full‑time in a relevant bachelor’s or post‑bachelor’s degree program (minimum 12 credit hours); engineering programs must be ABET‑accredited.
• At least 30 credit hours completed toward the current degree program.
• High school or other postsecondary credits must be accepted by the current program, as shown on a degree transcript.
• Maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent.
