27-020 Truck Driver-Laborer, Full-Time

About the Role

We are hiring for two positions: Truck Driver and Laborer (CDL Pathway). Both are full-time, 40-hour-per-week, non-exempt roles.

Pay

• Truck Driver: $21.79 to $31.53 per hour
• Laborer (CDL Pathway): $20.29 to $29.32 per hour

Responsibilities

Truck Driver

• Operate dump, flatbed, or other heavy-duty trucks to transport materials, debris, tools, and supplies for road maintenance, street construction, and public works projects.
• Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, including servicing with gas, oil, and water; report repair needs to superiors and mechanics.
• Assist in vehicle repairs as necessary.
• Perform manual labor tasks such as street patching, pipe laying, manhole maintenance, and debris removal.
• Assist in storm drain construction, maintenance, and repair.
• Install, repair, and maintain water mains, pipes, gates, fittings, and meters; flush hydrants and assist with water system operations.
• Install, repair, and maintain sewer mains, manholes, and pump stations; operate high-pressure sewer jetting, cleaning, and vacuuming trucks; use closed-circuit sewer inspection cameras.
• Perform seasonal duties such as snow plowing, hauling snow, and spreading sand/salt; cut grass, brush, and rake debris.
• Prepare trucks and equipment for emergency and seasonal operations, including snow removal.
• Operate vehicles safely and in compliance with all laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
• Perform heavy physical work under varying and adverse weather conditions.
• Follow oral and written instructions to complete work assignments.
• Supervise unskilled and semi-skilled workers on routine road maintenance and construction activities.
• Occasionally operate heavy equipment as a trainee.
• Maintain availability for emergency situations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, agencies, and the public.
• Follow safe work procedures associated with assigned tasks.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Laborer (CDL Pathway)

• Perform routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor for construction and maintenance of water, wastewater, streets, highways, sidewalks, and storm drainage projects.
• Assist in pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, and raising manhole covers and catch basins.
• Perform general heavy laboring duties, including removing trees, mixing and pouring cement, laying asphalt, patching streets, and installing/repairing water and sewer lines.
• Clear culverts, drains, roads, and ditches; maintain park facilities; mow grass; clear weeds and brush; rake and pack leaves and debris.
• Assist in installing, repairing, maintaining, tapping, cleaning, and flushing water mains, pipes, gates, fittings, and meters; install services, fire hydrants, and drinking fountains.
• Assist in shutting off broken sections of water mains.
• Operate jet trucks, camera trucks, and other light to medium-sized construction and power equipment.
• Assist in snow removal operations, including operating small trucks or sidewalk plows, or serving as a wingman on plows; attach and remove snow plows, sanders, and associated equipment.
• Assist in mitigating conditions caused by extreme weather, natural, and man-made disasters.
• Operate and maintain hand tools and machinery such as mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, and weed whackers.
• Occasionally perform traffic control functions at job sites.
• Operate trucks and motorized equipment as necessary.
• Maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
• Remain available 24 hours per day for emergency situations.
• Follow safe work procedures associated with assigned tasks.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

Truck Driver

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years’ experience in the operation and care of heavy-duty trucks, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid New Hampshire CDL-B with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsement (CDL-A with endorsements preferred).
• Demonstrated skill and experience in operating and caring for heavy-duty trucks and related construction equipment.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy-duty construction equipment.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and safety procedures related to truck and heavy equipment operations.
• Ability to understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Sufficient physical strength, conditioning, and agility to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods under varying weather conditions.

Laborer (CDL Pathway)

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year’s experience in construction, road maintenance, or trade work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Operator’s driver’s license; must commit to obtaining a CDL within six months (CDL-B with air brake and tanker endorsement preferred).
• Basic knowledge of and ability to use simple hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform simple and routine manual labor and sustain prolonged tasks.
• Sufficient physical strength, conditioning, and agility to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods under adverse and varying weather conditions.
