About the Role
Evaluates and tests fresh and brined stock to ensure adherence to standards and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Visually inspects every container of stock as it is unloaded off the truck or trailer.
- Drives up to 5 miles per day during work hours to offsite unloading facilities (reliable transportation required).
- Obtains samples of cucumbers and other raw materials upon arrival at the plant; visually and manually observes sizing, firmness, and quality.
- Obtains samples of brined stock from barrels or other containers and performs tests including acidity, % salt or salometer, pH, sizing, and other tests.
- Ensures all required samples have been obtained and analyzed; documents results on proper forms.
- Reports deviations to Supervisor in department 2600.
- Records information for the tanking of individual tanks of fresh cucumbers and related storage details; files information appropriately.
- Obtains daily samples from tanks and performs tests including pH, acidity, sugar, and salometer.
- Ensures timely entry of all quality inspection data into the electronic database.
- Evaluates stock brined during the year for sizing and quality issues to determine best use; assesses purchased brine stock for quality and disposition.
- Informs supervisors and others of deviations from specifications.
- Coordinates with Outside Production lead throughout the day using a radio to ensure timely inspection of trucks and containers.
- Keeps work stations stocked with necessary consumable supplies and maintains a clean, neat work area.
- Follows safety rules and company policies.
- Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, and project teams as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
Requirements
- High school graduate plus additional training.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
- Neat handwriting preferred for completing forms by hand.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Skills
- Use of titration equipment, metal gauges, length graders, knife, buckets, pans, blender, thermometer, salometer, pH machine, and calculator.

- Walking: Moving about on foot, including long distances or between work sites.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist.

- Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

- Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or working primarily with fingers.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to objects with fingers and palm.
- Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects (size, shape, temperature, texture) by touch.
- Talking: Conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; making fine discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Lifting: Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Visual Acuity: Close visual inspection for preparing/analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, reading, inspecting small defects/parts, using measurement devices, and assembling/fabricating parts.
Work Environment
- Works inside and outside with wide seasonal temperature variations (rain, snow, sleet, high temperatures).
- Exposure to fumes from forklifts and raw materials (e.g., peppers, onions).
- Contact with mud, dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, and brine.
- Required use of head covers, safety glasses, gloves, and safety vests for some tasks.
