About the role

The Consumer Arts Teacher works within the Pueblo School District 60 Innovation Zone, which consists of seven unique schools providing educators with challenging and rewarding teaching and learning experiences. The Innovation Zone leaders and teachers:

  • Recognize and support the uniqueness of each student.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement high quality instruction.
  • Pioneer new ideas and approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Adopt a growth mindset, overcome barriers, and persistently pursue student success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment.
  • Guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
  • Perform instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract.
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire.
  • Family and Consumer Sciences Endorsement or CTE Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS) Core Endorsement or Middle School CTE Combined Exploratory - Hospitality, Human Services & Education pathway endorsement.
  • Highly qualified in applicable content area through endorsement on a Colorado teaching license, 36 semester credit hours applicable to content area, passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series).
  • Be eligible for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in content area.
  • Complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and be cleared by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years successful teaching as demonstrated by references, evaluations, and student growth data.
  • Experience implementing effective literacy instruction including foundational skills and comprehension strategies.
  • Experience using Common Core State standards to plan instruction.
  • Experience with a blended learning model or a desire to learn.
  • Experience with AVID implementation or a desire to learn.
  • Experience in a Title I setting or low-income setting.
  • Experience with Teach Like A Champion Strategies.
  • Successful experience implementing strong classroom routines and procedures demonstrated by references and evaluations.
  • Experience with STEM based educational philosophy and instructional practices.

Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of Common Core standards.
  • Ability to unpack standards and align with curriculum.
  • Ability to write specific learning goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Ability to analyze and use multiple data sources to make sound instructional decisions.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and actively participate in professional learning communities.
  • Ability to use technology and incorporate/teach 21st century skills.
  • Ability to scaffold and differentiate instruction.
  • Willingness to integrate reading, writing, and math throughout the curriculum.
  • Computer expertise or an expectation to learn Infinite Campus.
  • Positive public relations skills, professionalism, strong work ethic, ability to develop positive relationships with school and community.
  • Ability to interpret test information and data.
  • Strong commitment to system change and strong evidence of being a "team player."
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Ability to be flexible.
