About the Role
The primary responsibility of the 6th Grade Science Teacher is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program.
- Perform instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.
- Establish clear classroom routines and procedures.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Use current and relevant subject matter.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Implement evidenced-based instructional practices.
- Use teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes.
- Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement.
- Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly.
- Prepare effectively for class.
- Prepare daily lesson plans.
- Provide instruction predicated on course goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
- Assign and check homework and provide appropriate feedback to students.
- Maintain a current awareness of literature/activities in subject area.
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
Requirements
- A valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire.
- An Elementary Education Endorsement or Science Endorsement.
- Be eligible for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in content area.
- Complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and be cleared by the Office of Human Resources.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Have 3-5 years successful teaching experience.
- Have experience implementing effective literacy instruction including foundational skills and comprehension strategies.
- Have experience using Common Core State standards to plan instruction.
- Have experience with a blended learning model or a desire to learn.
- Have experience with AVID implementation or a desire to learn.
- Have experience in a Title I setting or low income setting.
- Have experience with Teach Like A Champion Strategies.
- Have successful experience implementing strong classroom routines and procedures.
- Have a strong commitment to system change and be a "team player."
- Be able to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Be able to maintain a cooperative relationship with administrators, staff, students, and parents.
- Be able to interpret test information and data.
- Be able to establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Be able to maintain a current awareness of literature/activities in subject area.
- Be able to maintain an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development.

Schedule
The work year for the 6th Grade Science Teacher is 165 days.
