About the Role
To create a flexible elementary-grade program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a strong foundation for elementary education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and to build positive relationships with parents and staff members.
Responsibilities
- Teaches district-approved curriculum.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and district administrative regulations.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Communicates regularly with parents via newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Identifies student needs, makes referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Plans and coordinates the work of teacher aides, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
- Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student work.
- Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Arizona teaching certificate.
- Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement required.
- Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
Knowledge
- Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Writing general correspondence and speaking effectively with others.
- Basic arithmetic: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Principles and practices of program administration.
- Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
- Best practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
- Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
- Uses and properties of supplies and equipment, including specialized equipment relevant to the assignment.

Ada and Physical Requirements
- Positions require stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly to move objects.
- Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
