26-27 Truman Primary Special Education Paraprofessional - Autism Program

About the role

This position serves as a paraprofessional in Norman Public Schools, supporting instruction and student activities under the supervision of teachers.

Responsibilities

• Aid in instruction and activities as directed by teachers.
• Supervise students in various settings, including instructional, off-campus, and non-instructional activities.
• Serve as the primary contact for substitute teachers.
• Assist with student behavior management and respond to student needs.
• Provide assistance with special needs such as feeding, toileting, and personal care.
• Supervise students during transportation and before/after transport.
• Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment through light housekeeping tasks.
• Prepare snacks for students and compile/send home student work or weekly parent communications.
• Operate various equipment and assist with obtaining supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (minimum of 48 hours of college coursework), obtained an associate's degree (or higher), or passed the WorkKeys, ParaPro, or Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
• Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate or willingness to complete Tier 2 requirements within 120 days of employment.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. College hours are preferred and may assist in meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
• Training/Experience: Must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements and have previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties.
