About the role

Plans and teaches subject-area courses following the district’s scope and sequence. Provides instruction through real-life applications, simulations, and technology, including software applications. Uses formal and informal assessments to measure student comprehension and skill development.

Responsibilities

• Assesses student skill levels and aligns classroom goals with state and local standards.
• Provides instruction in the subject area, emphasizing real-life applications and simulations.
• Teaches inquiry techniques that encourage experimentation and alternative problem-solving approaches.
• Provides technical expertise in tools, materials, processes, and technology applications, including software.
• Designs learning experiences requiring students to demonstrate comprehension and use technological resources to solve problems.
• Encourages students to use learned skills for inquiry-based learning.
• Creates a classroom environment with access to subject-related materials addressing student needs and interests.
• Collaborates with staff across disciplines to integrate subject-specific skills into the curriculum.
• Stays updated on the latest developments in education affecting the instructional program.
• Attends faculty meetings to discuss school problems and teaching methods.
• Maintains classroom discipline, attendance records, grades, and other required documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in the respective grade level and subject area, or an original, signed letter from a certification officer verifying current enrollment in an approved certification program to be eligible for an Emergency Permit.

Certain subjects (e.g., art, dance, theater, music, world languages, vocational/CTE, itinerant, or bilingual roles) require additional eligibility steps. The recruiter will contact eligible candidates with further instructions.

Salary is determined by experience in education and educational attainment. Prior experience and degrees must go through the district’s verification process for final salary confirmation.
