About the role

The Social Studies Teacher will serve 6th-12th Grade students at Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS), a mission-driven school that provides educational support to refugee and immigrant youth. Reporting to the School Leader, this is a 10-month, exempt position.

Responsibilities

  • Teach social studies classes with a wide range of lesson presentation techniques to adapt activities for different learning styles and levels of language proficiency.
  • Able to build a trauma-informed connection to facilitate learning.
  • Classroom management skills that emphasize mutual respect and positive reinforcement.
  • Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students.
  • Recognize and teach lagging skills that are necessary for student growth.
  • Helping students develop an intrinsic motivation to learn.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching high school level social studies, preferably in an urban setting.
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree.
  • Georgia Teaching Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, yet strict and orderly classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject area and demonstrated student achievement results.
  • Citizenship, residency, or a work VISA in the United States is required.
