26-27 SY Teacher, Full-Time - Itinerant ESOL

Provides English Language Development (ELD) instruction to students identified as English Learners (ELs). Offers leadership and consultation as the second language expert/specialist to all staff in a school. Evaluates students' progress, maintains student records, and collaborates with classroom and content teachers to integrate language development strategies across the curriculum. Conducts screening, identification, reclassification, and monitoring of English Learners. For itinerant ESL teaching positions, school assignments may change during the year.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts units of work including ESL and language arts content aligned with ELA and ELD standards; participates in co-teaching to ensure language acquisition techniques are integrated into the instructional program.
• Conducts ESL proficiency level evaluations and assesses language development skills; provides data on students' language needs for their educational profiles.
• Serves as a resource for staff on language development strategies and ensures appropriate support during classroom instruction.
• Collaborates weekly with English teachers to prepare lesson plans and attends faculty meetings to discuss teaching methods.
• Stays current with new issues and developments in pedagogy, teaching aids, textbooks, and materials.
• Maintains a positive and respectful classroom environment, attendance, grade, and other required records.
• Provides professional development to classroom and content teachers during Common Planning Time.
• Designs and delivers individualized ELD lessons based on students' proficiency and grade levels.
• Maintains a weekly log to document students' progress in developing academic language and shares it with supervisors for feedback.
• Communicates regularly with classroom teachers, content teachers, and principals regarding students in caseload.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certificate to teach English with an add-on ESL Specialist Certificate.

• Ability to deliver and accurately score WIDA screener assessments (paper-pencil and online versions).
