About the role

The Automotive Technology program at South Seattle College delivers hands-on training with advanced equipment and industry support. Guided by professionals, students gain real-world skills and can work toward ASE certification to enhance career opportunities. Training is held in the renovated 49,000 square foot Huling Automotive Technology Center, which features modern service bays, VR classrooms, and safe, industry-standard tools.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct in safety, environmental awareness, human relations and leadership, which are integral to the program.
  • Teach the range of curriculum for Automotive Technology certificate programs.
  • Provide assistance and advice to students regarding their success and eventual employment.
  • Work with other faculty and students to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Complete all necessary college paperwork, e.g., registration forms, grade reports, safety reports, etc., in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in curriculum development and assist in counseling students.
  • Work closely with peers to maintain excellence in the program while working on campus committees and support groups and with a technical advisory committee and other professional organizations in the automotive industry.
  • Participate in department planning and operation.
  • Work with the program's Technical Advisory Committee to maintain strong industry ties, ensure the currency of the curriculum, and create employment opportunities for students.
  • Serve on department and campus committees, as appropriate.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least seven (7) current years experience in the automotive industry.
  • Three (3) of these seven (7) years will be at the journeyman level in the area of automotive electrical systems.
  • Be proficient in both the operation and teaching advanced diagnostics equipment such as Lab Scope, Diagnostic Scanners, Digital Multi-Meter, and 5-Gas analyzer.
  • Ability to teach and communicate effectively with students of varying social, cultural, and economic backgrounds, and understand the goals and objectives of a comprehensive community college and vocational education.
  • Ability to work with computerized systems.
  • Must be able to qualify for a Seattle College Vocational Teaching certificate and be committed to completing an in-service teacher education program.
  • Must be ASE Master Automotive Technician Certified or be able to achieve the certification within 90 days of being hired.

Pay

The salary range for part-time faculty is $8,845 - $13,248.33 for a 5-credit single-class (P2: A1- E7).

Schedule

All AMT classes have a 15-credit single-class workload per quarter.
