About the role
The Elementary Teacher's Assistant position at Norman Public Schools supports the instructional team by assisting with various activities and maintaining a clean, organized learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Aid in instruction and activities as directed by the teacher.
- Serve as a supervisor during instructional and non-instructional settings.
- Create and adapt instructional materials as needed.
- Prepare and set up teaching aids and assist with grading student work.
- Assist substitute teachers and manage student behavior.
- Perform housekeeping duties and assist with transportation logistics.
- Operate various equipment and assist with compiling student work for home.
- Support the computerization of school district operations and assist with training.
Requirements
- No formal education requirements, but some college hours preferred.
- Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, and/or clerical experience preferred.
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate degree or completion of 2 years of post-secondary education, or passing a PARAPRO or OGET test, required for new hires on Title-supported sites.
Skills
- Good customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle emergencies and provide assistance as needed.
- Knowledge of safety guidelines and school dress codes.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
