About the role

The Special Education Teacher position at Norman Public Schools is responsible for implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students with disabilities, ensuring they receive appropriate accommodations and modifications.

Responsibilities

• Initiate/Participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in a category of IDEA-BPL 101-746.
• Ensure each child has a current IEP with the required signatures.
• Maintain and implement IEPs annually.
• Create and maintain a special education file containing teacher assessments, IEPs, psychological evaluations, and medical information.
• Provide guidance to building principals on special education issues.
• Offer in-service sessions to regular education staff on classroom inclusion, intervention, and modification techniques.
• Collaborate with regular education staff on classroom expectations and dynamics.
• Assist students with prescribed medications.
• Lift and/or move non-ambulatory students.
• Diaper and assist students with toileting.
• Adapt foods and assist in feeding students.
• Present a professional appearance appropriate to teaching the assignment.
• Display a well-rounded knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues.
• Perform teaching and reporting requirements identified as part of state and federally funded programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

• Current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher in a specific disability.
• Bachelor's Degree in Special Education.

• Abilities in Near Vision, Mathematical Reasoning, Analyzing Data or Information, Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards.

• Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are essential for exchanging information, giving and receiving instructions, responding to inquiries, completing forms, and preparing correspondence.
• Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, and basic computations regarding addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
