About the role
The Chappaqua Central School District seeks a School Counselor to replace an anticipated leave starting November 9, 2026 through February 8, 2027. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive school counseling services, collaborate with stakeholders, and support students' academic, social, and career development.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive school counseling program to meet the needs of all students.
- Coordinate with administrators and teaching staff to understand individual student needs, including those with special needs.
- Provide counseling to help students grow personally, understand themselves better, and become more mature.
- Design, implement, and assess the counseling curriculum.
- Initiate individual and group counseling sessions for students dealing with academic, social, and personal issues.
- Consult with families and staff to understand student needs and make appropriate recommendations for educational options.
- Plan and conduct classroom counseling sessions to address identified counseling competencies in academic achievement, career development, and personal/social development.
- Assess student needs and refer students to appropriate resources such as school counselors, social agencies, community agencies, and alternative programs.
- Intervene during crisis situations and participate on the school crisis team.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and maintain open communication with both students and parents.
- Create a master schedule with school leadership and classroom teachers.
- Utilize the Infinite Campus system to schedule students.
Requirements
- NYS Counseling Certification required.
- Prior counseling experience at the secondary level preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and counseling techniques.
- Experience with data-driven decision making.
- Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
