School Counselor - Leave Replacement

Qualifications

• Valid NJDOE K-12 School Counseling Certificate.
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective counseling methods.
• Ability to maintain a positive planning experience, to assess student needs and to provide appropriate support.
• Ability to work collaboratively with administrators and teachers to promote student success.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with high school students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Must meet NJ Residency requirements as per the New Jersey First Act, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).

Pay and Benefits

• Per diem substitute rate: $125 per day.
• Long‑term substitute (less than 6 months): $250 per day.
• Long‑term substitute (6 months or longer): $345 per day.
• Long‑term, full school year assignment – Step 1 BA: benefits begin the first of the month after 30 days of service.
• The position is not eligible for a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision insurance), paid sick and personal leave accruals, or enrollment in the New Jersey Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund (TPAF) or the Public Employees’ Retirement System.
• No additional compensation for stipends (extracurricular activities, coaching, tuition reimbursement) per district policy.
• Time accrued in a leave replacement position does not count toward tenure (N.J.S.A. 18A:16‑1:1).
