About the role
Durango School District is seeking a Health Service Provider at Needham Elementary School to create and maintain health records and provide first aid and emergency health care for students and staff members.
Pay
Starting pay is $21.38/hr - $22.47/hr. For individuals with an LPN certification, Emergency Medical Technician certification, Medical Assistant certification, or a post-secondary degree in health sciences, the starting pay is $25.20/hr - $26.84/hr. This position includes a one-time bonus of $1,631.16 for the 26/27 school year (prorated for late start).
Schedule
This is a full-time, 9-month position running Monday through Friday, beginning August 17, 2026.

Responsibilities
- Administer minor and major first aid to ill or injured students/staff, including determining severity, calling 911 if necessary, monitoring chronically ill students, and performing technical procedures (e.g., blood glucose testing, injectable medication, diapering, or maintaining feeding tubes).
- Collect and maintain health information on students, including computer data entry, cumulative records, patient charts, immunization compliance, and completion of district and state reports.
- Prepare and maintain student health files, including documents to inform teachers/specialists of children with special health needs.
- Complete staffing health information forms for Special Education staffing.
- Communicate with District RN(s) and school staff to implement student health care plans.
- Administer medications and other medical treatments as per physician orders and district/state policy; record into daily medication logs and notify parents when medications are running low.
- Contact parents/caregivers of ill or injured children, document head injuries, file accident reports, and prepare students to go home if necessary.
- Compile and submit student injury reports to the District Nurse and administrative personnel.
- Serve as the worker’s compensation representative to assess and assist injured personnel.
- Perform clerical and secretarial duties, including answering phones, typing, copying, and preparing health correspondence.
- Provide students and parents with treatment options and community resources by serving as a liaison to outside agencies.
- Organize, schedule, and implement health screening programs (e.g., vision, hearing, dental), record and track results, and recommend follow-up care.
- Notify building administrators, teachers, transportation, and kitchen staff of students with significant health concerns.
- Attend staffing/child study meetings as needed and research medications and conditions.
- Report suspected abuse or neglect to administrators and proper authorities.
- Assist in facilitating activities that promote healthy lifestyles (e.g., blood drives, immunization clinics, cholesterol screenings, dental clinics).
- Assist in controlling nuisance diseases per District Nurse and state health department instructions; report infectious diseases as per CDPHE guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and orderly health office, including inventorying and ordering supplies, and assisting with the MSDS book for the building.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training as one of the following is desired: LPN, Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Assistant, or Certified Nursing Assistant.
- 0-2 years’ experience in a related field.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Criminal background check required for hire.
