26/27 Head Cheer Coach (Southeast High School)

Salary Grade: $8,000/season

Department: Athletics | Reports To: Athletic Director/Building Principal

About the Role

Provide leadership for the school's athletic program through the continuous development, implementation, and enhancement of the sport(s) assigned, while promoting student-athlete growth, program excellence, and alignment with district goals and expectations.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in team dynamics according to MSHSAA standards for Sideline Cheer.
• Implement and enforce activity standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for sponsors.
• Plan and administer Assistant Sponsor responsibilities.
• Plan activities that support the school’s athletic teams, including participation in all Girls/Boys JV/Varsity home contests in basketball, football, and volleyball.
• Organize support for soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swim through promotion or “cheer sections” during contests or events.
• Assist in the coordination of the program and supervise students at practices and contests.
• Coordinate with athletic team Head Coach for transportation and game management.
• Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities, inspect all athletic equipment and facilities, verify inventory, and submit documentation to the Athletic Director.
• Organize and schedule practice sessions to develop student-participants’ greatest potential.
• Emphasize safety precautions and follow best training and injury management procedures.
• Conduct team and self in an ethical manner, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship during practices and contests.
• Enforce regulations governing building use and hours.
• Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment, maintain inventory, and hold student-participants accountable for unreturned equipment per the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
• Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and arrange for the issuance of letters and special awards; submit all information to the Athletic Director within two weeks after the season ends.
• Work with the site-based Athletic Director to provide a solid program.
• Pursue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
• Complete MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid Requirement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must have a Teachers Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
