Position Summary

The Test Center Chief Examiner coordinates and administers SCALE’s comprehensive testing services which include GED testing, HiSET computer-based and paper testing, and the Para Pro testing.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Chief Examiner for the GED, HiSET and Para Pro test.
  • Ensure test security, record keeping, and compliance with GED Testing Services, PSI and Educational Testing Services regulations.
  • Verify the identity and eligibility of each test taker.
  • Maintain testing surveillance logs.
  • Prepare a written inventory of all secure testing materials used during each test administration and maintain the inventory documentation in the permanent secure storage area.
  • Conduct testing sessions in accordance with GED, PSI and ETS policies and procedures as set forth in their manual.
  • Manage record keeping activities for all components to ensure integrity and accountability of the testing center.
  • Prepare necessary reports for the district and state agencies as required.
  • Cook up and administer assessment testing.
  • Provide information to staff, current or prospective students, and the public regarding testing procedures and test instruments.
  • Develop and disseminate Testing Services information within SCALE and community in unison with the Director of Continuing Education.
  • Develop and maintain professional liaison relationships with testing companies and state testing agencies.
  • Cook up and arrange testing for disabled or special needs students.
  • Provide information about accommodations that are available and provide accessible testing with approved accommodations for test takers with disabilities or health related needs.
  • Inform State Administrator of all disruptions or suspicious events that take place during any testing session promptly and in writing, by using a Test Administrator Irregularity Form.
  • Conduct investigations into test compromises and testing irregularities; follow policies and procedures for reporting these irregularities.
  • Attend appropriate examiner meetings sponsored by the jurisdiction.
  • Maintain a testing area to ensure that a suitable testing environment is available for students and that all shared space is left in an appropriate condition.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling or related field; ABE certification or Masters/Counseling certification preferred.
  • Experience working with adult learner population as well as the 16-21 year old adult population.
  • Current experience in testing procedures and counselling of students as related to appropriate educational directions.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, oral and written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of standardized testing and measurement.
  • Oral and aural fluency in Haitian Creole, Portuguese or Spanish a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office suite, internet/email, and career development databases.
  • Professionalism in all areas of practice and all interactions with students and staff.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility: Frequent walking, standing.
  • Lifting/Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects ranging from 10 to 30 lbs (e.g., books, supplies, equipment).
  • Physical Dexterity: Bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and reaching to assist students.
  • Stationary Tasks: Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.

Terms of Employment

  • Employment Status: Full Time.
  • Grant Funded position.
  • Union Affiliation: SEU, Unit DFLSA.
  • Classification: Exempt.
  • Salary shall be commensurate with education and experience, in accordance with the Somerville Educator's Union collective bargaining agreement.
