Monitor the main entrance of Somerville High School during weekday evening hours, enforce security policies, and maintain a professional, courteous relationship with staff, students, and families while overseeing appropriate building use.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the front entrance and other designated exterior doors/gates; ensure doors are not propped open and remain locked.
- Verify identification, check in visitors, and issue passes following school policy.
- Assist students, staff, and visitors entering the building and direct them to appropriate locations.
- Conduct regular checks of the school building, including hallways and restrooms; monitor security cameras if applicable.
- Report, manage, and/or diffuse potential safety threats or unauthorized individuals; remove unauthorized persons from the building.
- Redirect people from unauthorized locations within the building.
- Coordinate with night custodial staff to ensure the building is fully cleared of visitors each evening.
- Maintain visitor logs and report maintenance or safety concerns.

Physical Requirements
- Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and navigating stairs.
- Lifting/Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects ranging from 10 to 30 lbs (e.g., books, supplies, equipment).
- Physical Dexterity: Bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and reaching to assist students.
- Stationary Tasks: Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.
Reports to: The School Principal and Director of CTE
Schedule
- Part-time, yearly appointment.
- Monday - Friday, up to 19 hours per week.
- Evening hours: 6:00 PM - 9:45 PM.
Pay
$25 per hour worked.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- MA Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Clearance.
- Fingerprinting.
