Position Summary

Teachers (4116.31) shall instruct students to the best of their ability within the curriculum plan adopted by the Board. They are expected to participate in committees, attend meetings, supervise students, manage classroom control, and prepare lesson plans.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize services of the Division of Instructional Services and building principal to improve instructional technique.
  • Participate in planning, research, curriculum, public relations, or other professional activities.
  • Exercise proper supervision and care over school property.
  • Instruct students in the care and proper use of school property.
  • Report promptly any abuses calling for administrative or legal action.
  • Maintain pupil classroom control.
  • Manage and supervise all students of the school.
  • Open and close school sessions or class schedules punctually.
  • Affirm knowledge and enforcement of Board rules and regulations.
  • Closely observe pupils to determine defects hindering successful work and report such situations to the principal.
  • Prepare lesson plans, records, and reports as required by the principal or central office.
  • Communicate with parents in the best interests of the students.

Requirements

  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teaching license.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to spend up to 70% of the day walking.
  • Able to walk or run quickly through hallways and stairwells in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, respond to active crisis situations, and support student movement.
  • Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance.
  • Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building.
  • Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy.
