About the role
Seeking an analytical and detail-oriented accounting professional with experience in Property Accounting within the oil and gas industry. Skilled in managing capital projects, handling complex transactions including acquisitions and divestitures, ensuring GAAP compliance, and delivering accurate internal reporting.
Responsibilities
- Prepares schedules, books entries for, reviews, and analyzes the following aspects of Property Accounting:
- Capital projects – including all PPE accounts
- Asset retirement obligations of oil and gas properties
- Depreciation and depletion of oil and gas properties
- Depreciation of fixed assets
- Impairment of oil and gas properties
- Inventory (materials and storage)
- Acquisitions and divestitures
- Performs monthly and quarterly close tasks associated with the items listed above.
- Responsible for timely preparation and distribution of monthly internal financial deliverables, quarterly external financial deliverables, and the analysis/review of these deliverables for accuracy and reasonableness.
- Ability to translate and appropriately account for complex/technical accounting transactions regarding acquisitions and divestitures and beyond.
- Prepares special reports and completes special projects by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information for various groups throughout the company including executives, technical employees, and accountants.
- Works with field personnel to provide more information as needed for special projects.
- Skilled at understanding both internal and external reporting implications and the interworking of both internal and external reporting tools.
- Able to interpret requests from the Operations team and translate them into accounting and vice versa.
- Absorbs and prepares for annual financial statement audits related to Property Accounting areas.
- Able to troubleshoot, research, and develop solutions within SAP and various reporting tools.
- Capable of researching and resolving issues brought forth by cross departmental teams.
- To improve intra-departmental productivity, employee is expected to develop proficiency in and knowledge of the following positions: External Financial Reporting Lead and Staff Accountants Internal Financial Reporting Analyst
Qualifications
- Five years minimum experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically Property Accounting, with public accounting experience preferred.
- Ability to identify and analyze accounting and property reporting questions and develop solutions responsive to those questions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
- Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities without close supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate financial information into an organized and presentable manner.
- Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in the use and application of the following software: Required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Preferred: Strong working knowledge of SAP
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college with a degree in accounting.
- PREFERRED: Masters’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business.
Other
- CPA preferred.
