About the role
The Education Assistant works at Walker Elementary, assisting teaching staff by performing instructional tasks, record keeping, and student supervision duties. The position includes follow-up on applicable District policies and procedures, assisting students with assignments, and monitoring and supervising students during various activities.
Responsibilities
- Fulfills administrative tasks such as record keeping, copying, filing, grading assignments, and taking attendance.
- Assists students in small groups and one-on-one settings with reading, math, and writing lessons.
- Participates in testing and evaluating students' abilities in math, writing, and reading.
- Maintains a safe environment for students by reporting safety hazards and ensuring proper supervision.
- Communicates with parents and participates in team meetings.
- Assists in maintaining a safe environment for students at all times.
- Performs minor first aid and attends in-service trainings.
- Attends staff meetings and school field trips as requested.
- Files documents and records according to predetermined classifications.
- Assists with loading and unloading students from buses and transitions them between classrooms and activities.
- Assists in developing educational materials and implements daily activities under the direction of licensed staff.
- Supports the licensed staff member in the set-up and maintenance of the classroom, materials, and supplies.
- Communicates with parents/guardians as directed by the licensed staff member.
- Represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.

- Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or one to two years' related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior successful experience working in a school setting or with children strongly preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, and word processing software. MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and PowerSchool strongly preferred.
Qualifications
- Must meet current No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements.
- Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $18.15 - $22.04 per hour, subject to the 2025-26 salary schedule and 2026-27 schedule to be determined. The position also provides a safe and supportive environment for students and staff.
Schedule
The Education Assistant works 0.8438 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent), which equates to approximately 6.75 hours per day.
Pay
The starting salary for the position is $18.15 - $22.04 per hour, based on the 2025-26 salary schedule and 2026-27 schedule to be determined.
