Applications are invited from suitably experienced and motivated individuals to fill the role of Specialist Biomedical Scientist in the Bacteriology Laboratory at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
About the role
This is a trainee post covered by Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change (A4C) Terms & Conditions. Successful candidates will be required to complete their Specialist Portfolio and the schedule of in-house training within the agreed time scale prior to progression to Band 6. Participation in the 24/7 working system is expected.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialist bacteriology diagnostic testing and analysis.
- Participate in the laboratory’s 24/7 working system.
- Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Requirements
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Significant experience in Bacteriology.
- Completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Microbiology.
- Eligibility to work in the UK (permission granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service).
Pay
For trainees covered by Annex 21, pay is structured as follows (based on time remaining until completion of training):
- Up to 12 months prior to completion: 75% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
- More than one but less than two years prior: 70% of the pay band maximum.
- More than two but less than three years prior: 65% of the pay band maximum.
- More than three years prior: 60% of the pay band maximum.
