About the role

Continuing, full-time (1.0 FTE) position teaching Career Life Connections 12, BC First Peoples 12, and Support Block 10‑12 & Other at Hazelton Secondary School in Hazelton, BC. The role starts immediately and is located in the Northwest British Columbia within School District #82 (Coast Mountains).

The district serves approximately 4,100 students across nineteen schools, includes three alternate programs and a trades learning centre, and covers a geographical area comparable to Finland. It encompasses the traditional territories of the Gitxsan, Haisla, Nisga’a, and Tsimshian nations.

Responsibilities

• Teach Career Life Connections 12, BC First Peoples 12, and Support Block 10‑12 & Other courses.
• Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, and emotional learning difficulties.
• Maintain strong classroom management.
• Collaborate as part of a team to support student learning.
• Relate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Follow the school and district framework for enhanced learning.

Requirements

• Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible to obtain).
• Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching students at all grade levels.
• Working knowledge of the learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies within the revised BC Curriculum.

Skills

• Strong classroom management skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to relate well with students, parents, and staff.
• Commitment to following goals and strategies for enhanced learning.

Benefits

• Relocation allowance: $1,000 – $5,000 for teachers from other areas (conditions may apply).
• Recruitment and Retention allowance: $3,500 paid over 10 months of the school year (based on FTE).
• Isolation Allowance: Hazelton $1,287, Kitwanga $1,528, Stewart $4,824 (paid over 10 months of the school year).

Pay

Salary range per the collective agreement: $63,513 – $117,454 (based on 1.0 FTE). Additional allowances (relocation, recruitment/retention, isolation) are provided as outlined in the Benefits section.
