About the role

The core focus of this role is the psychological assessment and treatment of clients, their families, and/or carers referred from GPs and CMHT colleagues as outpatients. The post-holder will supervise trainees and Band 6 and 7 colleagues within the Psychological Therapies Team (PTT). Responsibilities may also include consultation, training, and deputising for the Co-ordinator at meetings, referral allocations, and MDT discussions. Involvement in wider activities across the Psychological Therapies Teams, such as staff training, is expected.

• Provide a highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment service to Adult Psychological Therapies, exercising autonomous professional responsibility for patient care, including legal reports, expert witness testimonies, and cognitive/neuropsychological assessments.
• Identify service priorities in line with current best practice and clinical standards/guidelines in liaison with the Locality Co-ordinator or Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.
• Adhere to relevant legislation, including risk assessments for cases such as suspected child abuse or neglect.

Requirements

• Post-Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
• Registration as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK.
• Accredited training in the supervision of Post-Graduate clinical trainees.
• Knowledge of NHS Lanarkshire’s policies, national and professional guidelines (e.g., child protection), and complex clinical presentations in psychiatry and related professions.
• Ability to work sensitively with diverse individuals and organisations, respecting cultural, ethnic, gender, and philosophical differences.
• Awareness of the limits of personal competence and expertise, with a commitment to maintaining and updating knowledge of legislation and local policies related to Adult Mental Health.
• Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence.
