The role involves performing basic laboratory functions including specimen processing, customer service, and data entry procedures. Duties include collecting, processing, storing, and transporting blood, body fluids, and tissue specimens. Additionally, clerical tasks such as faxing, copying, and mailing reports and answering phones are performed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- West Virginia Point of Care Technician (PoC) License preferred
- Phlebotomy Certification (CPT)
- Six (6) months of Phlebotomy, Lab Assistant, or Cytopreparatory experience
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare specimens for basic diagnostic procedures to ensure accurate patient results
- Operate laboratory equipment and instrumentation for testing and specimen processing
- Prepare reagents and solutions for specimen processing and testing
- Perform quality control procedures to ensure the reliability of reagents and equipment
- Complete assigned workload within established turnaround times
- Communicate any unusual supply usage, critical supply levels, medical/technical problems, or patient results to supervisors
- Perform clerical duties as needed to support laboratory operations
Physical Requirements
- Heavy/Hard work: Lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and rotate, standing and walking for entire shift
Working Environment
- May require unsupervised access to restricted areas containing medications, supplies, and patient confidential information
- May require travel between facilities/buildings
- May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental needs
